I was surprised how much I liked this book. I was kind of thinking, “oh another titanic book,” but it was thoughtful and thorough and a very enjoyable read.

With vivid characters and settings and one incredible tragedy, Jennifer Nielsen once again crafts an unforgettable and touching middle grade story. Great for historical fiction fans of all ages.

I really enjoyed Nielsen's A Night Divided--in comparison, I was a bit disappointed by this one. It starts off strong, but after the first few chapters I found the plot lacking. It got super technical with explanations of how the ship functions, science behind icebergs, etc. and the "mystery" Hazel was investigating felt pretty weak. I have many students who love all things Titanic, so I'm sure they would enjoy this, but it's not the suspenseful, exciting story I had expected.

This one felt rushed. Like she was trying to give a whole lot of info using the “i want to be a journalist” trope but it didn’t work for me.
