Beautifully disgusting, but amateurish writing
This book is as splatterpunk as it gets, and I will credit the author for writing some of the most stomach-turning scenes I’ve ever read. I’m far from squeamish, but the imagery in this book had me setting down my kindle to take a breather more than once. Watson does not shy away from even the most taboo subjects, which, as an avid horror fan, I can appreciate.
That said, the author’s writing skills leave something to be desired. The dialogue is often clunky and not believable. The villain has no clear motive, no backstory to make the reader understand who he is or why his actions take place. All of the characters lack dimension and purpose.
Aside from the gore aspect, everything else in this story just falls flat. I almost DNF’d before it even got to the nasty bits because of the lackluster story building. It reads like an edgy college freshman’s first creative writing assignment. It has the shock factor for sure, but that’s about all it has going for it.
I see the potential in Watson’s writing though and I do hope their future works only continue to improve.

This was super disturbing. It was mostly child sa. This is why you should never open the door for strangers. I’m giving this a 3.5. Very interested in reading the next one now.
