This book was insanity. My heart was pounding so much. Stress from beginning to end. Although I predicted the twist, it still had me shook. What a crazy ending. Would recommend if you want your head to spin.

Read The Whole Thing

Oh the ending was so sad but so victorious. I relate so deeply with Abbi, I recently cut her out of my life after years of manipulation and abuse and this book reinforced my decision to do so. I didn't like Meredith because I felt she was selfish in the situation. I still don't feel entirely positive about her and her actions but nothing is ever black and white.

The story was fun and engaging but totally not believable and kinda ridiculous. But I'm a whore for books with cults. But ask these characters (especially the father) were really unlikable.

When She Returned by Lucinda Berry is a taut psychological thriller about a woman named Kate, who returns after being missing for 11 years; and who may or may not have been in a cult. Told in alternating timelines and with different POV’s from Kate’s husband Scott, from their daughter together Abby, Scott’s new wife Meredith, and Kate herself in a past timeline. A wild ride!

Narrated by: Coleen Marlo, Lauren Ezzo, and Amy McFadden.

I loved this book. Anything dealing with cults fascinates me, and I think the author did a really good job of portraying the fact that no matter how smart and well educated you are, you could easily get trapped into cult ideology like Kate did. I also think the addition of the "evil stepmother" (at least in Abbi's eyes) made the story so much more satisfying by the end. Five stars.
