It's almost one o'clock in the morning and I'm not a fan... I kinda feel like I wasted and your of my life on characters who didn't show any development at all. It was okay, but this Grace book was not for me.

This novella is littered with bon mots. Diverting and fun.

A fast Novella to tell the beginning of Burrowes' Windham family. Light and fluffy like a meringue, and leaving me with a taste for something more substantial.

Sweet and well-written, with likable leads. Some promising supporting characters, too, that I suspect (and hope) will turn up in later books. I'll try the next in the series and see how it progresses.

I’m not sure how I stumbled upon this novella, but I thought it would be a good introduction to Grace Burrows. Her writing felt a lot more unique to me than other historical romance writers, and for some of my reading—I wasn’t sure I was a fan. In the end, I was interested in the story of our characters and seeing where their future went and while I’m not sure Grace Burrows will be my favorite writer going forward I am interested in reading more to decide.

I've mentioned before that I really like trying out a new-to-me author by reading a novella. While novellas are usually lacking in character development, they always let me get a feel for the author's style. The Courtnship by Grace Burrowes which is a prequel of her Windham series, was a great way to look into this author's work.

The Courtship takes place during a house party, a setting I can never resist. Esther isn't normally invited to such events, because she's a poor relation. But she is invited to this house party, and that's where she meets Percy, who is a younger son of a Duke.

Esther and Percy form a connection pretty quickly, but that didn't bother me at all. Both Esther and Percy were so easy to root for, and I really did like them. That said, I did find their romance to be a bit . . . quiet. I didn't feel a ton of passion between them, although I did feel like they loved each other. I wish there were a bit more banter between then, but then, I love banter and always want it in the romances I read.

The Courtship has definitely made me curious about the rest of this series, and I wonder if I would have gotten more out of this prequel novella if I had read the regular series first. But overall, I did enjoy The Courtship, and I definitely want to check out the rest of the Windham series. This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook
