Creepy to think about

3.5 stars. A deadly, fast-paced thriller following eight passengers trapped in self-driving cars that have been hacked to collide with each other. The hacker forces a jury (and the public) to decide who lives and who dies. Lots of twists and turns, and dives into AI and morality. *Be sure to read content warnings before picking up this book!* I didn’t and the scenes regarding pedophilia hit me like a truck and I physically gagged. Not my typical fare, but certainly attention-grabbing, and the content can make for some deep discussion questions for book clubs.

4.5 ⭐ rounded up

This story is a horrifying nightmare that I couldn't stop reading. Especially since I don't think it is that far-fetched of a future for society. We already have hands free assisted driving cars; completely autonomous cars are the obvious next step, right? Are they really safer? Sure, maybe, until several of them are hacked by an unknown terrorist and sent on a collision course. That premise alone is enough to scare me. The suspense of this book is anxiety-inducing. I was on the edge of my seat from the very beginning, and the tension never stops. It is a fast-paced thriller that really makes you think. One of the many things I liked about the book is how the author weaves into the storyline a bit of one of his other books. I have read that other book, 'The One, and I loved that as well, so I really enjoyed that it was written into this story. I really enjoyed this offering by John Marrs. He's on my 'authors to watch' list now with two successful reads behind me. I would definitely recommend it to fans of speculative fiction or suspense thrillers.
