OMG, I cannot believe it took me this long to read this book. I’ve had it ever since the tv show was coming on CBC (which I never watched), and had started it but DNF it at that time, not sure why.
It was not planned, the reading of this book, it just happen by fluke because I was reading a book on my tablet, and couldn’t read the tablet in bed, so I grabbed this book, instead of following my TBR, which I had planned to read another one for my alphabetical order challenge of the year.
Thank goodness I did, because I have finally found a 5 STAR read!!!! The emotions this books gives you, from the start when Aminata is taken from her village, the hardship the Africans endured on the ships and America, and to the ending where it made me almost cry (I won’t spoil the ending), I have loved this book, and wanted to know more. You can feel the history and see it in your mind, and what an amazing feeling it was.
I highly recommend this book to anyone, and not surprised one bit that it won Canada Reads award.
