dramatic na kung dramatic pero it's with a heavy heart that I decided to dnf this kasi after reading the beginning and the last couple of chapters, I don't enjoy it much enough anymore to continue finishing it.
I'd say it's because the things I like best about the series so far--the camaraderie, Jez, the reckless abandon of only fighting for yourself, the schemes--is less present dito. Sobrang laki ng reliance on military might to up the stakes and while yes, it makes sense kasi there's a literal civil war going on, it doesn't mean that I had to enjoy that. And parang nagslide backward yung character development ni Frey. I just, don't feel the same compulsion he has for doggedly continuing to fight to save Trinica at the expense of his beloved crew.
I wish, he just left whatever they had at that.
Honestly, I think kaya lang ganun kalaki yung drive niya is para may nagdridrive sa plot. The plot of the novels is heavily reliant on conflict and, ito yung piniling main conflict. When kung tutuusin, pwede namang nagfocus na lang on other things since ang daming pwedeng ihugot sa ibang crew with their backstories tulad ng kay Jez, Silo, or Crake.
So ayun.. I guess at least Crake have had his closure, and na-enjoy ko yung shenanigans ni Pinn lmaoo

Rounded off the series well. Glad that everything came to a conclusive end and he hasn't tried to spin the characters into more and more stories.

Series review
Well, that was a fun series to read! I'd been eyeing Chris Wooding's work for a while and thought I'd start with this series instead of The Ember Blade which is quite a big book. I reckoned it was safer to start with the Tales of the Ketty Jay; ever since Staveley's Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne I'm more hesitant to start big fantasy series from authors I know nothing about.

This is the third time I have finished the Tales of the Ketty Jay, and as soon as I read that last word, I was itching to start all over again. The cast of characters in this series are some of my favorites in all of fiction, and all of their arc's wrapped up so well.
This book concludes the series very well, but that doesn't mean that other aspects of the story suffered. The captivating plot loaded with action continues, and the stakes were the highest in this one. In previous books, the crew of the Ketty Jay were off on their own little adventures, and here they get caught up in a civil war (one that they happened to cause 😅).
One thing that I love about Chris Wooding's storytelling is how he manages to include emotional moments as well as thought provoking themes into stories that are constantly moving and action packed. Similar to the previous three books, this one held my interest the entire way, and I can't think of a single dull moment.
Wooding's writing style isn't "beautiful" by any means as it reads easy, but there is always a sentence or two once in awhile that really stick out. There would be times I do a double take, surprised by a phrase or sentence.
The highlight of this story for me is the characters. If found family is something you enjoy reading about, this series would be for you. All of the characters get satisfying endings and it is a pretty happy ending. Really my only complaint is that it is a bit too much of a happy ending, but that's just me finding something to complain about.

Really have enjoyed reading the adventures of the misfits and losers of the crew of the Ketty Jay. Pirates or heroes? You decide.

This was a great last book for the series. It is captivating, fast paced and gbringing every character to their limits and back again. So good after the disappointing Iron Jackal.
Highly recommend the series despite its ups and downs for the characters and adventures.

Wooding decided to end this series on his terms, and I must say his terms were fantastic. Wooding upped the stakes in this book forcing our beloved characters to make decisions with both global and personal implications. The book delivers a very satisfying ending with the typical humor, action and emotional moments we have come to expect. This series never forgot its roots of humor, piracy,and the value of camaraderie. I wish the tales of Ketty Jay weren't over but am so glad I took the journey with them
