It was a lot of telling and reminiscing but still through telling. Also some of the messaging about love and what romantic relationships should look like were a little heavy handed
i was very very bored. I didn't care for either character or their relationship. No chemistry, tension, or excitement between those two.
3.65 stars in my books!
this was truly a cute queer book, that has you hooked right from the start! i thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and had such an amazing trope in the romance aspect.
although i enjoyed the book a lot, the reason as to my rating is caused by the multiple pop culture reference, which in my defense tend to break a lot of books when they are mentioned every so often. it truly is a good read if you want something to read in a short time period! i just wished we couldve gone deeper into celestes feelings and perspective, instead of gemma being the primary pov!
if you are looking for a cute lesbian romance w some angst (i suppose) this is a good book!

Wow, what did I just read? Gemma and Celeste have the thought processes & emotional bandwidth of high school girls, and this is supposed to be a second-chance romance as the two approach & enter their 30s?? These two desperately need therapy (which, to be fair they do by the time they reconnect a THIRD time ) yesterday, I had a hard time rooting for either of them since they refused to be honest with each other from the start.
I was also extremely confused by the switch between first and third person perspectives, it was distracting and made me feel like Celeste's POV wasn't that important, especially since her chapters were generally shorter. It almost felt like the Celeste chapters were added in later for length, since the one redeeming quality of this novel was that it was pretty short.
I feel like there's a gem (pun intended) of a storyline in here somewhere, but it desperately needed another editing pass (or three) since it all felt super juvenile to me. I'm sure this novel has its audience, but unfortunately I'm not in it.

Overall this book was fine. I loved the queer Asian representation in this book. There was also some much-needed character growth in this book that I appreciated.
I felt that Gemma and Celeste’s connection was described as almost entirely physical and not emotional at all. They dated for a few months in college and reconnect 8 years later, but there’s little conversation about how they may have changed during that time.
There’s a weird time jump after they decide they need time apart to focus on their individual growth. During that time, Celeste can’t stop thinking about being with Gemma. However, Gemma hasn’t really thought about Celeste in a year. They end up together shortly after. It’s confusing.
The book was dual POV, but Gemma’s chapters were written in first person and Celeste’s were written in third person. It made for a really weird and choppy reading experience.
Thank you to Forever Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC.
