”How do you define love?”
Celeste braces herself.
”Breathing,“ Keiko says, looking into Nat‘s eyes.
”Living,“ Nat replies. ”I can’t imagine a life without my wife.“
i received an arc for this book and couldn’t be more grateful! this book completely blew me away it was INCREDIBLE it tugged on my heart strings in all the right places and the chemistry and plot was so delicious all while just being incredibly important representation. the writing is gorgeous and i genuinely felt sad when it was over it was the kind of book i wanted to start reading all over again immediately after i finished it. the perfect 5 star wlw read that i can’t recommend enough especially as a summer read! and if you like sapphic smut lets just say this book won’t disappoint and as a lesbian i think its some of the most realistic and hot smut ive ever read 💗
🌸 THE CHEMISTRY!!! the romance!!! the sexiness!!! goddddd college sweethearts to exes to friends to fwb to lovers always hitsss and they’re so in love they had my heart soaring for real.
🌸 SO MANY QUEER FRIENDSHIPS!!! god i loved the friendship between gemma and the sapphic couple val and kiara and the fact that celeste‘s best friend is a bi man and then all the queer couples they interviewed goddd it’s just beautiful how this book emphasises both platonic and romantic queer relationships
🌸 some people are bothered by the different narrators (switch between first person and third person) but i personally LOVED it because i think it’s what made this book unique and it fit the characters well.
🌸 i really really loved the character development of both main characters and the bisexual and lesbian representation respectively
🌸 so many scenes that had me screaming OH MY GOD
🌸 the korean culture and all the food and traditions mentioned
🌸 the fact that it’s a celebration of love with celeste and gemma interviewing all these couples especially the old couples and the queer ones made me tear up
🌸 celeste is SO hot i need her so bad shdjdjdj
🌸 found family is such an important topic in this book and it melted my heart
🌸 gemma being in a toxic relationship with james and standing up for herself and coming to realise that he was the one who was toxic throughout the book was beautifully done
🌸 LYLA LEE‘S WRITING I NEED AT LEAST 263673 MORE SAPPHIC BOOKS FROM HER
🌸 a sapphic couple where no one is white!!! and can we talk about the cover, absolutely stunning!!! this is so important for diverse representation where asian sapphics in particular are still very underrated and this book is going to make many people feel seen.
🌸 the smut!!! listen as a lesbian who’s been subjected to straight smut my entire life seeing sex between two women depicted so realistically and in a really fucking hot way had me LIVING this was incredibly special to me because it’s some of the best sapphic sex scenes i’ve ever read.
🌸 celeste being gemma‘s bi realisation 🥹 and gemma being nervous about going down on her for the first time because she’s never done it before but celeste guides her through it. now THAT‘S representation as a sapphic woman i felt so seen because it’s exactly how i felt since my wife was my first love first relationship first everything and also my lesbian realisation.
🌸 the fact that they both want kids and spoke about it frequently "i want to have a life with you. i want to marry you and have children with you“ meant EVERYTHING to me it’s not something you often see in sapphic literature.
🌸 i related to celeste so so much and my wife and my bi friends related so much to gemma and this is why writing books like these matters so damn much.

this was cute, cozy and very fast paced. you could definitely finish it in one day, in one sitting, especially if you're listing to it at 1.5x or faster. unfortunately, the whole situation could have been avoided with a bit of communication and that 100% annoyed me. but still, it was a cute sapphic romance with asian rep and i loved that! now about the audio... i didn't love Catherine Ho as celeste... i felt that her voice was just a bit too mature and it threw me off every time her chapters came up. she just sounded wayyy older than gemma. i think the Natalie Naudus could have narrated both parts just fine! i actually liked her voice distinctions of both characters in her own chapters. because i didn't love the voice acting, i may have enjoyed it more as a physical copy, however it was still cute, not life changing by any means, but fun! and i LOVED gemma's friends! thanks for the alc hachette audio and forever!

A fun, quick read with palpable chemistry between its main characters, a second chance romance where the initial breakup really makes sense, and some lovely reflection on the importance of queer elders and representation. I didn't love the structure: about 75% is told through Gemma's POV in first person and the remaining 25% through Celeste's POV in third person. The book feels much more like Gemma's story as a result and I found myself either wanting more of Celeste or to be fully immersed in Gemma's mind. (The first person also flows much better and the third person chapters are so short that we don't get to know Celeste as well.)
