I read this book for my book club. I probably would not have picked it to read on my own, but it was interesting. Well-written story that gives you background on the life of spies during the cold war and various double agents. A good read for people who want to learn about the life a a spy in the KGB and Communisim during the Cold War.

Interesting enough tale of Cold War bastardry. After a slow start, it speeds up into the action of spy vs spy cross and double cross. Worth a look.

The story of Oleg was exhilarating. Sometimes, after so many spy movies, we have been conditioned to think real spying is boring. Much of it is, but how influential Oleg remained, his skills and human story, and how many paths crossed to create his life story is sometimes hard to believe. Just like Oleg provided the erst with information, you can learn a ton about how the KGB and USSR thought through the 60s-80s.
Radio 4 Book of the Week (or Day!) but omnibus version on Radio 4 Extra. Really interesting and with suspense even though you know the final outcome - it’s how it was done!
Since read the book and it was really interesting with more background information. Highly recommended.
