3.5/5 rounding down to 3 stars. I quite liked this book actually. Loved the Vikings aspect and the romance hidden under the storyline of two neighbouring enemies. I only wish it were longer. With just over 300 pages, the second half felt rushed. Would read again.

Yes, yes, yes and yes. I am so angry I didn’t read this sooner.

This was a quick, enjoyable read. I felt like the final "battle" was a little rushed, but other than that, I did enjoy this quite a bit!

Alright so... this book didn't have the most unique intricate plot or the deepest characterization, but the writing was solid and this was a fun read.
I've been wanting to read this one for a while, ever since I heard it was about VIKINGS. I loved the descriptions of the setting and the characters. Speaking of, did anyone else picture Eelyn as Lexa?
Aside from all of the viking goodness, Iri and Eeyln's relationship was probably my favorite aspect of this book. I'm a huge sucker for sibling relationships.
One thing I didn't care for was the romance. Maybe it was because I absolutely flew through this book, but it felt super rushed and insta-lovey. I don't see the hype around Fiske either, I mean he was just eh.
Anyway, if you're looking for a fast-paced, fun, and atmospheric read and you still haven't picked this one up yet-I say go for it.

The plot was excellent. The writing was intriguing. The reason for four stars was some of the descriptions were too explicit. There were a few gruesome scenes described that just…ugh. The false god narrative was consistent throughout, so it was clear on the theology (not trying to claim a specific religion or anything…just Norse-like mythology).

It took me 1 day to read this and the only thing I found wrong with this book was that it definitely could've been longer. There was a lot more to this world and the story. I wish it was a duology.
