Slow start but really got to me. I love Russian culture in general so it was interesting having POVs at either end of such a transition. I definitely recommend for anyone who's a fan of Nicole Krauss or The Bronze Horseman trilogy.

This story started very slow which is why I couldn’t give it 4 stars. I really had to push myself to keep reading and l’m very glad I did
This book has lots is mystery and once you got to the real meat of the story and discovering the answers to Rosie’s questions it because much more enjoyable. This book is broken up into 4 parts, the first two were definitely slower however I flew through the last two parts of this story.

A novel that beautifully captures three generations of women during three of Russias turning points in modern history (fall of Tsarist Russia, fall of Stalins Russia and the final collapse of the USSR in the early 90s). The novel does a wonderful job of capturing the spirit and the strength of Russian women and how they managed to hold their families as close as possible during turbulent times.
