The book was pretty easy to read through. However, there was no actual resolution, the questions that Rosie was seeking answers to about why her father and sister were shot are just pushed to the side.
Following the characters through the events that occured in Russia through the 20th century, although interesting since the country saw a century of unrest, political upheavals etcetra, I didnt feel for the characters as much I have while reading other books set in this time.

I really enjoyed this book. I couldn't put it down and finished it one afternoon. The writing, and the setting were all superb.
However, the story kind of fell flat for me. After I finished, I needed clarification about how the dolls fit into the story, and I didn't feel that I really understood what happened to Zoya and her dad. While her work to uncover this mystery was a major plot, it fell a little flat. Instead, I was much more interested in the story of Tonya and the Countess and what happened to them during the revolution, WWII, and as the USSR fell in the early 90's. I could have done without all the doll stuff, which by the middle of the book, I was glossing over. All in all, I enjoyed this book, but some parts of the story didn't come together and work for me.
