A perfectly find Morse mystery. I think I'm getting tired of the genre though.

This is a difficult book to read. I always liked reading detective stories. But this one felt like a soap opera. I liked some of the twists. The thing that didn't work for me was the prose (sometimes the writing style) of the author. It was vague and too difficult for me to understand (or connect).

Maybe it was me! Maybe!

TBH, the only thing I liked about the book was not the mysteries but the characters. Inspector Morse is a drunkard and a "single" old man.
SpoilerAnd by the end of the book, these two things change and it was cute.
And his sidekick (!) Lewis had the best arc of all. Apart from these two, I couldn't able to gel with the other characters. I liked Shelly but in the end, it was a cliched bad-turned-to-good character. I just didn't, couldn't, Huff!!!

Maybe it was me! Maybe!

And that is why I listened (also read the book at the same time) to the audiobook to finish the book.

I should've DNF'ed the book. But I decided not to. (Don't ask me why!)

I actually really enjoyed this book, even though the whodunnit was obvious in this case. Many moving characters and an interesting personality for a detective.

I did find the book slow in some parts though, especially when consolidating evidence was concerned. And it was closed too quickly in the end. So, while the pace could be worked on, the mystery of it all is still a solid read.

The 12th book of the series, again obviously the language is quite dated but i enjoyed the case overall

I like how Morse and Lewis' relationship has progressed throughou the series to where we finally learn Morses Christian name

Excellent book. My 'first' Morse novel. Had a very interesting mystery and had me close to tears with all the diabetes stuff. But still, has me excited for the rest of the series!

My god I thought I was pompous and pretentious!

That said I read it, but do feel TV series had much to do with that.

This is my first time reading Inspector Morse, and I loved everything about it! The writing is stellar, and Morse is an intriguing and interesting character.

This was my first go at reading Colin Dexter rather than watching the show based on his books. The show really captured the speech patterns of both Morse and Lewis, and it is so important to understanding their characters. I was worried that, being a fan of both shows, the books wouldn't deliver as well, but I needn't have worried at all. I wish there were more in ebook format!
