This book made me feel more than any book has made me feel in a long time. The idea of the book is amazing and the execution is perfect. I loved the writing style.

There was a lot of word building, it would be difficult to read subsequent books without reading this one first to understand the meanings of a lot of the words.

This is my second time reading this book, mainly because I wanted to finish the trilogy and it had been so long since I read it I couldn’t remember a lot of it.

I wanted to love this book, but it’s not one of my favorites. It’s still good, but could have been better.

The majority of the action happens in the beginning and the end of the book. The middle is a lot of high school type drama.

There is a lot of word building, so reading this will help to understand other books, so I’m glad I started with this one. I think this book is slower just so you can understand the language and of the world that Leigh Bardugo is building.

Alina and Mal are orphans who are connected in a way even they don’t understand. They spend their childhood together then go on to join the army together, Alina as a map maker and Mal as a tracker.

While crossing the fold, Alina’s secret comes out, a secret she didn’t even know she had. She’s ripped from the life she knows to a life of she knows nothing about. She struggled to fit in before and she struggles to fit in now.

The Darkling has a secret as well, only he’s had longer to cover it up.

Alina has a destiny to fulfill, but with the Darkling help her or hurt her in the process? Will Ravka ever be whole again?
