I did not buy into this one unfortunately. While I completely get Jason was not great to Layla while they were dating, cheating and not putting her first etc., having them be in high school (and eventually college) made the stakes of that low to me. Yes, I understand Wells was in love with her *the whole time* but it still felt very fast that she was moving on with her dead boyfriends best friend within weeks of his death.
I also think she really didn't come into herself as the author intended, she just put herself into Wells' life on the ranch. Sure she finished school at least, but to do photography for the ranch? It just screams 20 something year old who still doesn't have it together and I wasn't into it. I found myself speed reading just to get to the end and finish this one, not sure if I'll read the next one in the series when it comes out.
I've seriously been considering Kindle Unlimited like bad, indie books that just shouldn't be published (but are). BUT Sunshine kind of changed my mind.
This was not earth shattering, this did not change the chemicals in my brain, I did not cry and this isn't one I carried with me for days after - but - for a free book, it was good.
I liked the way the story toggled back and forth, I liked the slow reveal of the past and how it got Wells and Layla to the point they're at now. I did find some of the details about Layla and Jason to be a bit boring, her relationship with her mother was tired and unsurprising. I think when I write the book, I'm looking for that big "stand up" moment where she walks away from her family - I don't think necessarily going back to where she was before (college - or whatever) necessarily fulfilled that (for me) but it was a decent read!

This was SO good!! I devoured it & was hoping the second one was out. I loved Wells from the jump. Anyways, you should read it.
I am so frustrated !!!!!!
We didn't get enough of Wells for me. I feel like we had too much of young jason and not enough of him before the accident. Maybe because they were so young during the story.
Even the mother daughter relationship was not developed enough.
I did enjoyed it tho !!!!
