Perfect, light summer reading with a cute queer romance!
Arek is the Chosen One and has just finished the quest by defeating the evil king. But now, he is left standing with a kingless kingdom and has to take on the crown which comes with a pesky little curse: If he doesnt bind his soul to somebody before his 18th birhday or he'll die. With a very attractive friend group, chaos is ensured - especially because of his crush on his child hood best friend Matt...
This book was by no means a masterpiece of literature. But its a five stsr book for me because it delivered what it promised and I loved every second of it. It doesnt try to be something it isnt, it actually embraces cliches and tropes from fantasy - for example by making every character a DnD Archetype. It felt familiar in that way, but also new because of the unquestioned queerness of it all, the humour and self awareness.
It was definitly more characterdriven, which I love, even though no really big character development happend. There was an abundance of emotions (great for my dramatic ass), some hurt/comfort, pining, found family - what more do you want?
Verdict: Great book to relax to, comfort for the soul, beautifully queer and perfect for vacations when you just really wanna have a good time with a story

Super fun book about a very simple communication problem. I actually hate it when books can be about 20 pages long without the communication issue but I'll give this book a pass. It kind of has a slow start but once Arek enacts his plan I fell in love with the book similarly to how I have all of Lukens novels.
I do wish the book had either a couple scenes to see the "before" for the Arek and his group! All the characters are so much fun, I would've liked to see them just a bit outside of the "running a castle" plotline.

I loved this, I loved the idea and the execution and the characters. While I don't love the miscommunication trope I still really enjoyed this (although I do think the miscommunication went on for too long). Is this really a 5 star read? idk but it feels right
