What happens after the quest is complete? This book explores that very question. I liked the added bonus of the court politics and accepting a king position for a moment (only to find out) the heir has been dead awhile. Oh and the prophecy added some fun too.

It's weird; this is the exact same audiobook narrator as the previous novel by this author, but I did not like him whatsoever in that one. But I liked him plenty in this one, so it might have been something that did not click back then. Anyway, it felt to me that this book has been on my mental TBR for incredibly long. It's queer with a fun play on the trope of 'what happens once the journey ends?'. Miscommunication is the name of the game; Arek and Matt somehow manage to hide both of their life-long crushes on each other, which results in Arek trying to whoo is friends or otherwise he will be dying. None of it really sticks, but it always results in situations where he and Matt are in close to each other; too close. The supporting cast was distinctive enough that I remember most. They have a real D&D feel to them, with all different classes and even a different race. Overall, I had a good time with this. It wasn't life changing, but it was cinredibly cute, fun, silly and I had a really good time with it. The miscommunication trope was kinda grating, but I also quickly figured that this was just the whole book, so you kinda run with it. Another gripe I had was that the whole cast had to be paired off. It didn't work too well for me, as we hardly see any of them interact with the other. I do, however, appreciate how queer the whole story was. We had, I think, one straight ship and the rest was either gay, bisexual (or some kind of flavour) and we even had non-binary representation in the supporting cast. Like, sexuality was not even questions, they just went with it. I simply just don't have that much to say. It is a fun romp with all the typical tropes and cliché's you find in similair works, but with queer characters and a story that does not take itself too serious.

it read like a dnd campaign
either way it amused me immensely. it's the first rom-com i've read, and while it's not something i'm used to, i enjoyed it
