Why did I took so long to read this?? There is not a lot of world building or an overly complex plot but damn it is GOOD!
The feeling you get is the same conform romcoms are able to provide and, although the slow burn is REALLY slow, it’s all so fun. You will not be able to stop reading it.

I think I might have started with very high expectations for this book because unfortunately this book did not live up to these expectations. I did enjoy some of the characters (not including Matt) and the pacing made it easy to finish. Other than that the relationship was so surface level and I did not like the whole Wooing thing. I usually enjoy miscommunication when it’s done well but in this book it felt so forced and poorly constructed. 2.5 stars which actually pains me.

It’s giving Mike and Will fanfic with mutual pining miscommunication and general dumbassery but it was a fun read
I read this as a an attempt at redemption from Wayward Son and also just because I've been meaning to get to it forever!!! And it was really good! Ft Lukens' books never fail to make me happy like it's not even a question at this point... I would've liked to hear from Matt's POV honestly! I straightup would read like a few extra chapters just from his perspective, because the dual pov really worked well in Spell Bound! This wasn't exactly what I expected but in the best way! I'm obsessed with all the side characters and would also read little stories from them because I loooove all of them! This was a fabulous little treat full of warmth, yearning, and found family!
2.5 ⭐️ if I have to be painfully honest. It’s fun for what it is; an lgbtqia+ romcom, if I had to categorize it. I appreciate that the representation is out there for readers, but I found much to be desired. Some more world building and more conflict outside of what the characters share amongst each other would have gone a long way. It was hard to overlook the ease of which some of the plot points progressed. Simply taking over a kingdom without pushback from locals? Inexperienced teenagers effortlessly ruling a kingdom? Lack of more believable conflict and the occasional out-of-place dialogue took me out of the story a bit, but it was fun for what it was. If you can resign yourself to a no-expectations, lighthearted read, you might find yourself in for a cute time.

Spice: None. Just some kissin'. Okay, and some mentions of boners.

I am a sucker for romances like these. As a hopeless romantic myself, I relate to Arek quite a lot. Well, except for, y'know..the whole withering away bit. And being King. There were many times I wanted to throw this book across the room because of all of the tension between Arek and Matt. Those big dumb dumbs were so oblivious to what was in front of them the ENTIRE book. Well, except for the ending.
I am very happy with how this book ended. Gosh, I am SO sappy. Sometimes I need a break from all of the other reading I do, and this was a MUCH needed refresher. I wish I could read it for the first time all over again.
Thank you, F.T. Lukens for writing this book. It was such a sweet book. <3
"I choose you, Matt. You're the other half of my soul." -Arek 'So This is Ever After' by F.T. Lukens
P.S.: Marking this book down as Gale-Coded. (Baldur's Gate 3 players will understand.) <3
