Semester One

Mazzy J. March

3.52 AVERAGE

This was so amusing I want more, but the reviews make me shy away. I loved the simple prose and laugh-out-loud moments. Academy romances are perennial favorite tropes of mine, and this one had a fresh concept: janitor turned student.

I love a FMC who is demure, or realistically depicted. She is not brash and doesn’t rush to tackle things in a sarcastic manner. Rather, when faced with a monster at the door, she smartly checks all the locks and hides. And then questions her sanity before dismissing it.

I also liked the men, who have yet to show personality, but the first one she meets is not the most handsome, rich, entitled god-like creature she has ever met. Refreshing.

And my favorite subcharacter was probably the bar mistress, an older woman who brought pastries.

I suppose it was supposed to be a romantic supernatural comedy, and it succeeded. This is perfect as a de-stress activity after a long week.

* First in a series
* Single POV
* Resourceful and likeable MC
* Well-paced
* Bubblegum fantasy

The phrase "A whole new world" has just taken on a whole new meaning for Valentina.

What an absolutely brilliant start to a series. From the very first page Mazzy J. March had me hooked & I just had to keep reading until I had finished. If you love paranormal I highly recommend reading this book. Valentina's world has just opened up in a way she never could have anticipated.
I can't wait for the next book in the series. I hope it comes soon.
