Solid story and illustrations. A boy remembers, misses, and honors his grandfather. When he drifts off to sleep in his handmade boat, we witness a mix between reality and fantasy reminiscent of Where the Wild Things Are. At the end of the story, the boy's mother wakes him and it seems as if his grandfather's presence is still with them, eve n after he's gone.

June 2018 - beautiful and fantastical, but more about the images than the story. Ben enjoyed spotting different things in the illustrations.

This story reminded me of a fable and the illustrations were breathtaking. To remember his grandfather that passed away a little boy builds a ship. He falls asleep inside his ship and when he wakes up he goes on a journey to where the ocean meets the sky. At the end of his journey he finds his grandfather, now the moon, and he says goodbye. A great read aloud about remembering ones we love.

The artwork in this picture book is so detailed and lovely, it made me slow down to look at all the details, because the details tell a story too beyond the words on the page, and the more I pay attention to the pictures, the more I'm getting out of the story.
Beautiful book. I feel like it would make a great animated short film.
