The first half feels like Pride & Prejudice, the second half feels like Snow White… which means I was incredibly bored for the first half

One of the best Snow White retellings imo. I love that the step mother wasn’t evil, that the dwarves were kids, and that the witch helps them. Tho I will say that the duke and Claudia dying wasn’t necessary imo and it definitely destroyed me emotionally

A modern day YA retelling of the famous "Disney" story we all know, and there were a lot of things I liked about this new Snow/Sophie. She's fierce, and lovable. While I think a little more character development would have been nice, especially with certain relationships. There's fun and lightness with mystery and romance respectively, then there's confusion, and that's where it landed. It ended and hadn't felt a connection with so many questions and uncertainty throughout. I wish I could have loved it, but I it was a quick entertaining and easy read.

2 stars. I enjoy fairytales and have enjoyed some of Melissa de la Cruz’s other books, but this wasn’t the book for me. I was intrigued by the set up of the story, but there were enough non-sequitur plot points and unfinished or awkwardly wrapped up threads that it left me with an unfinished feeling.
Additionally, I was not a fan of Phillip. He was only there for the prince’s kiss and happily ever after. He was gone most of the book and just felt bad about it, as did our Snow White character.
Similar to Cinder and Glass, this felt fairly close to a less magical tale of the original story. For example, there weren’t dwarves; there were children. There was still a witch, but she was more a mysterious old woman who provided an escape for Sophie and an antidote to the prince.
**Trigger warning: There is a wedding night scene that isn’t “fade to black.” It is not graphic, but could be considered too intimate for children.

I love Snow White, so I'll read any version of that story. Definitely for the YA set, but okay.

Pretty cover and the story was good, but kinda left me with “meh” feeling at the end of it.
