This collection fully brought me back to reading after a four year slump. Very queer in a 1980s kind of way. Contains "the forbidden" which is the short story the candyman film is based on. My favorite story in the collection is "the madonna" which involves an eldritch harem in an abandoned pool? The atmosphere on all the stories is so top tier. Loved it!

I thought I was in the mood for a re-read but it wasn’t for me. These stories are AWESOME, just bad timing on my part.

Classic Barker....death, gore, darkness and plot twists. 4 entertaining short stories, including the origional "Candyman" movie.
I liked it. He writes really well, and the lovecraft shows in his descriptions. But his attention to detail is what really makes the stories amazing.
The Forbidden-
Candyman was white.
The Madonna-
It was like Lovecraft had decided to write about the gender variance in The Left Hand of Darkness.
Babel’s Children-
The attention to detail in the characters and worlds make even a story as drab as this-an illuminati scenario-entertaining.
In the Flesh-
Again with the Lovecraftian monsters, but this time paired with his dead-person-swaps-places-with-a-living-person thing from The Tell-Tale Heart.

Early short stories I had never read. Good stuff, but Barker gets much better. I do plan to enjoy all the Books.
