This is a 0.5....It...I'm sorry but just...no. The writing was just MISSING something for me. And it's only a 0.5 because I LOVE the cover!

It was just ok so far. Very similar to the movie but with some extra elements. Nothing was “wrong” with it. I just didn’t want to pick it up for days.

The Little Mermaid was one of my favorite movies growing up, and I enjoyed reading Eric’s perspective. I loved his backstory and getting to see some additional moments between him & Ariel.
A fun and easy read!

I love a good retelling, and this was so fun with the POV of Eric! I like that in this book he seems more realistic, like that one scene when he's showing Ariel around and when she keeps wandering instead of following him, he gets a bit irritated. Since he was on a tight schedule it makes wayy more sense than him being all heart-eyes constantly like in the movies. The link with Ursula, being one with both a curse for Ariel AND Eric is so cool! I like that he had some friends too, which again, wasn't the case in the movies much. I loove the ways in which Ursula was using her powers, with the souls and such. All in all I really enjoyed it!
(LGBTQ+ rep: WlW relationship, seemed quite queer-accepting which is always good (can't remember if there were more, oops))

The middle of the book really dragged for me.

As far as retellings go, this is solid but I wouldn’t be quick to reread this.

A little slow in the beginning, but picked up quickly. This follows a different story line than the movie. Some things were the same and brought about a smile. Definitely diverse characters included.
