This is a brilliant and very clever graphic novel adaptation of Anne of Green Gables. It manages to cover all the major events of the book, and convey the personality and exuberance of Anne.

I have read the original Anne series well over a dozen times and I absolutely LOVE this adaptation of the first book. There are so many little thoughtful details in the illustrations that convey descriptions from the original book without needing any words at all in those frames.
Great adaptation, highly recommend!

This wasn't a home run for me but not a total loss either. I enjoyed spending some time in Green Gables but I am not sure that someone new to this story would fall for it in quite the same way as you would the original. The pacing felt very fast and the illustrations were not always my favorite. But it was a quick read and a nice way to reexperience an old favorite.
I was provided with an arc of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The landscapes are where the art is strongest. But Marsden captures Anne's spirit perfectly here. It's a good and concise retelling of the first Anne book. And is the graveyard on page 224 a nod to LM Montgomery's MacNeill heritage and Macdonald marriage?
