'Notorious rake Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley, is gracing the gossip pages for a new reason: the rumors he may have murdered his swindling cousin. His quest for answers regarding his cousin’s death leads him to an incomparable self-declared spinster, and he is—for the first time—beguiled beyond reason. Neither is what the other wants, and yet their intense mutual infatuation is inescapable.

After abandoning her philandering betrothed at the altar, Phoebe Lennox fled from London only to return an heiress who refuses to follow the ton’s rules. She won’t risk a relationship of any kind—until she meets the notorious Marquess of Ripley. Swept into his seductive embrace, her resolve falters in the face of a pleasure she never anticipated. But when the truth about Marcus and the murder come to light, Phoebe could lose everything she holds dear, including a love for all time.'

A Duke is Never Enough is the second book in Darcy Burke's The Spitfire Society series. I have not read the first in the series, Never Have I Ever With a Duke but after reading this book I will definitely be going back to read it. Not only is there romance, there is also a bit of danger and mystery. My favorite kind of book.

When the book starts, Marcus doesn't come across as the greatest guy. He is fighting to stop his cousin from swindling money out of unsuspecting members of the peerage, but he also comes across as quite a womanizer. I was prepared not to like him very much, but he turned out to be such a great character. He is generous and kind, always taking care of those around him.

Phoebe admittedly had a bit of a modern approach on life for a woman of her time, but there's nothing wrong with that. A woman with her wealth of funds could forge her own independence and I really liked her for it. Her bravery in jilting her fiancé, establishing her own independence, and going after what she wants earned my respect. Phoebe, like Marcus, also takes care of those around her and is such a great character. They're so great togther and I really enjoyed reading about them and their HEA.

A Duke is Never Enough is not the first book I have read by Darcy Burke, but it is the first in this series that I've read. I will be going back to read the previous book in this series and look forward to the next one in May, A Duke Will Never Do This is not a clean romance. There are several intimate scenes, but they are well written. I adored reading this book and if you like historical romance, I recommend A Duke is Never Enough to you.

This was was a great story with strong characters. The love story of self proclaimed spinster Phoebe and the womanizing Marquess Marcus was hot, sexy and intriguing. However, I did not need the secondary plot with Marcus’ cousin scamming people out of money.
I received an ARC for my honest review.

A Duke is Never Enough is the second book in the Spitfire Society. This has been a fun series based on women who are independent women who want to live their own life and not confirm to Society’s opinions. Phoebe Lennox fled London after standing up her betrothed on her wedding day. She returns as an heiress and declares herself a spinster. She is happy living by herself and not having to worry about the marriage mart. Marcus Raleigh, Marquess of Ripley, was happy with his bachelorhood and his reputation as a rogue. He recently learned his cousin has been taking advantage of people and swindling them out of money. He is determined to track down his cousin and put a stop to it. When his cousin is found dead, Marcus becomes the suspect after his public confrontation with his cousin. Solving the murder becomes necessary for them to have a future.
This was another great book from the author. I loved all the characters and can’t wait to read Jane’s story.

Marcus is a rake and Phoebe is a self declared spinster who left her fiancée at the altar, she see's Marcus get into an altercation with his cousin one day where he is hit in the head with a rock and follows him to help clean him up and proceeds to meet cute and not tell him who she is, he accepts the challenge to find her by the following evening.
This was a sweet story about a rake helping a woman who had almost been raped by her fiancée(hence leaving him at the altar) discover that these experiences are meant to be enjoyed and not be frightening or painful. The dynamic between these 2 was charming because they become very caring friends first who place wagers on various tasks and events that eventually leads them into some smutty good times after the trust is built.

TW: attempted rape, not on page but described to the hero at one point.

I knew I was going to love Marcus’s story and he met his match in Phoebe. Neither one of them cares about the ton’s rules or has a desire to marry until they meet. I loved how they started out making wagers and becoming friends, but anyone that saw them knew it was more. From the moment they met, there was heat between them and I knew they wouldn’t be able to fight it. I love when couples go into things not wanting to get attached because when they fall in love they fall hard.

The story of his cousin’s death will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to find out what will happen and when. I wasn’t sure who the killer was until it was revealed. Marcus learned people care about him as much as he cares about them.

Phoebe doesn’t want anything to do with marriage after what happened with her ex. But Marcus opens her eyes to how things should be and piques her interest. I loved her from the start with how independent she was and that she helped him.

Marcus avoids relationships, but something about Phoebe draws him in and he can’t stay away. I loved him from the start because you could tell he wasn’t what the ton thought he was. He cared about people around him more than he realized.

Here we go. Darcy Burke amazed me with her book, A Duke is Never Enough. The book gripped me from the beginning with the instant passion that sparks between Marcus and Phoebe. Wow! The love scenes were very steamy and hot!
The details and the imagination that went into the writing of those scenes put me right in the room with them. I felt naughty just reading them. I was excited to read more of it though. I wanted more of those scenes through out the book. The introduction of different characters was great.
You didn’t lose the interest of the book as this happened. The crime and mystery played a great part int the book. Both the romance and crime/ mystery played well hand and hand. The book had an easy flow and didn’t bore me one bit. My only wish though is that scenes of the book could have taken place in other rooms rather then predominantly in Phoebe’s garden room.
My fellow readers, this book has my recommendation as a must read.

I absolutely loved this second novel in The Spitfire Society Series by Darcy Burke. Phoebe and Marcus are a fantastic couple and I really enjoyed their "banter" and how they became friends before transitioning into more. The secondary characters are a lot of fun, and I am looking forward to Jane and Anthony's book later this year.

Need a smutty romance? You came to the right place! A Duke is Never Enough is an easy read with a good dash of sexiness between (you'll never guess) a Duke and a self proclaimed spinster. Add in a murder, and you have yourself a pretty good quarantine read!

Only two problems for me
1. Some of the language used during the sex scenes was definitely from the wrong time period.

2. Murder only mattered for about twenty pages.
