After not enjoying a majority of the first volume but hoping that the ending forshadowed a more interesting turn, I was thrilled with this volume. There's still a bit of a problem where the prose will focus in on inconsequential conversations, and no description is spent on where things are taking place, making scenes hard to visualize. The exception to the second point is whenever the characters would visit a place bankrolled by the main character's company, which made the lack of description elsewhere stand out even more. But even with those issues, the political intrigue in this volume kept me hooked. We get a clear picture of the different factions inside the royal government, hints at a wider global conflict, and a corrupt religious elite used as a pawn to try to undo everything the main character has accomplished. All of this plus the now-open secret (to the readers) about the first prince's identity has turned around my opinion of this series. I'm excited to read more!

Not gonna lie, this was much worse than the second book.
I mean it was going good and then there HAD to be a secret royalty trope or whateverrr

Ahhh!!! This series just keeps getting better and better! I absolutely loved this book! The political intrigue and world building and romance was just spectacular! I love it when a book makes me have a stupid grin on my face that just won't go away because the book is THAT GOOD - and this book really was that good! I am so excited to see where the next book in the series goes!

This series continues to be very enjoyable, and I look forward to seeing how things proceed from here! I still have a few issues with it (like how everything seems to conveniently work out all of the time), but it's a fun series to read! And I really, really love the art!
