I've recently completely run out of space for my books, so have been attempting to wade my way through my collection to find books to donate. It was whilst doing this that I found my copy of 'Cookie', bought aged 10 when first published, that I'd cherished dearly. I had an unrelenting love for Jacqueline Wilson when I was younger and refused to read books that weren't written by her; my adoration and nostalgia meant that as soon as I found Cookie I wanted to re-read it.
It's still a very sweet novel. Our protagonist, Beauty, lives in permanent fear of her unpredictable father. Her situation is worsened by bullying in school. When her father's anger reaches boiling point, Beauty and her Mum decide to start a new life in a seaside village.
Wilson has a wonderful style voice that allowed this book and its slightly more mature themes to be both understandable to my ten-year-old self, yet still enjoyable to me today aged 20. These themes may be dramatic at times, yet aren't intimidating to her younger readers. Beauty goes through notable character growth; she was a protagonist I adored when I was younger, and I still love her to this day.
This book has reignited my love for Wilson and has made me want to go back and visit many more of her brilliant books.

This was decent, if a bit too long- hit close to home for me personally. Cookie was a fun protagonist and the topics discussed were done well and with tact.

Too slow paced for me. I’ve read it before and it’s too young for me.

I decided to read this book as it has been on my shelf for a long time I don't really know what to make of it it was okay the story starts with beauty Watching Sam and Lily a TV show seeing as a baby show Beauty loves rabbits a friend of hers got her a rabbit for her birthday who didn't like pets in the house or pets at all for that matter so he leaves the cage openon purpose to get rid of the rabbit they find the rabbit die so blue is mum decides enough is enough and they leave him and go to the seaside where a nice man lets them say in his cottage Beauty's mum starts making cookies what is a big hit and people can't get enough of them so I give this bk 3 stars it wasn't the best book I've ever read but it was okay
