DID NOT FINISH: 16%

Did not like how repetitive it seemed

Ok. I need a second. Just finished this book (read it in one day - which wasn’t too hard to do considering how action packed it was) and i’m in awe. Everything about this book was phenomenal. It kept me hooked, looking over my shoulder and theorizing. I’ve never been one to add spoilers in my review but this one desperately needs me to talk about it. Not for a SINGLE second did i think that “Bennett” aka Shawn was related to Declan and behind the whole thing. I actually thought Declan had survived. I was also starting to not be able to trust Hope (the icon herself please forgive me for not trusting you). Originally i believed that Cleo caused the fall, Valerie did nothing, Aiden saw it all, Jack didn’t care, Hope used her head, Connor played the hero and Declan was left for dead but i was very wrong on several fronts. Not many books can creep me out but the idea of being stalked/watched and someone being in your house without your knowledge freaked me out so much that i was starting to get paranoid. It was incredible writing, incredible characters and an incredible plot. I actually didn’t realize this but i have a few more of this authors books on my list that i want to read so i’m very excited to start those one day as well. This book was amazing and i highly highly recommend it!

It's Cleo's eighteenth birthday. Her parents are out of town. And in two days, it will have been a year since the tragic death of her abusive ex-boyfriend, Declan. Everything seems normal, Cleo takes a shower, but when she emerges she finds a small gift in the bathroom that wasn't there before. Thinking that it must be her best friend Hope's idea of a birthday prank, Cleo just shrugs it off and opens the gift. Instead of a present, there is a riddle leading Cleo on a scavenger hunt.
At first, the scavenger hunt appears to be a fun birthday idea, but as Cleo and Hope begin to revisit areas from Cleo's past, dark secrets from Declan's death resurface. Someone is blackmailing Cleo. The question is... who?
I began listening to this book as an audiobook as a way to pass the time while painting. Normally, I listen to audiobooks for one hour, maybe two hours at a time. Four hours passed by and I had to keep listening. I was hooked. I got through half of the book and switched to the e-book version the next day. I couldn't wait another several hours until I found out who was behind the scavenger hunt! I needed to know right away!
I quickly breezed through the pages, barely blinking until I reached the ending.
This is the fourth book I've read by Natalie D. Richards. I absolutely loved Five Total Strangers. Seven Dirty Secrets is a close rival of this book. I am not sure which one I loved more. It is clear though that with the years, Richards' writing improved greatly and her ability to create suspense has grown in leaps and bounds. I am excited to see what sort of story she will come up with next!
I do not tend to read a lot of thrillers in the young adult genre as a whole, but Natalie D. Richards' books are an exception to that rule.
If you have yet to read a book by Natalie D. Richards, I'd recommend either starting with this one or with Five Total Strangers. You won't regret it, trust me!

I don’t know what it was about this book but I just simply could not relate to or connect with the characters. I think the plot in itself is very interesting the characters j aren’t interesting. They all seemed quite bland or basic to me tbh.
