I definitely recognised a lot in this book, despite having done the journey some 35 years later. Interesting how much more open the country was to me, but how little the people and styles seemed to have changed. Not as funny as A Short Walk..., and it suffered a bit from his digressions on trying to provide encyclopedic information on the landscape he was passing through. Very cool to see a photo included of the marker between Europe and Asia - I took one the same when I passed by
