This is a delightful and heartwarming romance that will leave you swooning. While I adored the characters, and thought the plot was intriguing, there were moments I found myself cringing and experiencing the worst kind of second hand embarrassment. It is a romantic comedy with fluff and latinx representation. It’s short and sweet but lacks depth.

Favourite quote: “I feel like I’m the center of his world, and that makes me weak in the knees.”

i think authors need to have the concept of dating someone for a bet permanently wiped from their memory.

3.5 rounded up for this fun #ownvoices, dual POV, YA romance between a fake bad boy musician and a teen reporter sent to get the dirt on him. I loved the Brazilian MCs, the demi, ace and pan sexuality rep and the way the characters find love in unexpected places. Great on audio narrated by Javier Prusky and Carla Corvo.

disclosure, read for demisexual MC and otherwise is not rly my kind of book.

This is very short and fast and easy to read, but it's lacking a depth in the overall narrative. It kinda skips over the believability of the reason why each of them is doing this, and the end is so fast and overdramatic while barely sitting in the complexities of the actual events.  Her lie was WAY worse than his, and he forgives her after a few weeks and public declaration of love?
if she had written a damning social media post that went viral sure. but she wrote a published expose article tearing him apart? and the snippets we get from it are like. it’s not believable that this would be considered reputable imo. And she made assumptions about him based on limited information, which is understandable, but I think there needed to be a lot more depth in the narrative for me as the reader to forgive her, yknow?

His demisexuality is fine, it’s mentioned a few times and I appreciate that it's something he's already figured out an identifies as even though he's never really had a relationship! Ultimately the book is so short and fast that it's also not explored in too much depth.

I think the thing I enjoyed most was the aspects of Daniel's experience as a Brazilian in the US, and his insecurities about joining the band who're already friends and the development there. Plus the conversations around their cultures and being white-brazillian in the US vs being seen as 'PoC'. Again I wish there could have been a bit more of that!

For me personally short-and-sweet YA romances work best when the stakes are lower so that things can be explored more in the short amount of pages.

absolutely nothing wrong with it, I’m just not into YA contemporary as much lately and I didn’t feel like I NEEDED to continue. too many books on my tbr to not be picky!
