This book is young adult fantasy at its finest. I really appreciate a book that is fast paced and quick, but also doesn’t lack any world building and character development. I was fully immersed in the world and the politics right off the bat.
I tend to love any book that involves witches as characters as they are so fun to be around. The atmosphere that can be created in a story with spells and magic is unbeaten in my opinion and Kristen Ciccarelli definitely hit the mark.
Rune was your typical brave, strong and sassy FMC and I loved her for that. She has gone through so much in her life that I couldn't help but root for her. Because of this, it took me a little while to warm up to Gideon, as by nature he is very anti-witch. The relationship didn’t wow me, I was definitely more interested in the plot line and the reveals that I knew were coming. Saying that, I did think Rune and Gideon were well matched - both having lived through various trauma and learning to love again.
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed The Crimson Moth - the pacing was good, the world intriguing and I adore Rune as a main character. Very excited to continue and complete the duology.

So… how long do I have to wait for book 2? I felt like the author’s pacing was pretty perfect, and I enjoyed how there were things I was able to predict and then a few things I got wrong. Obviously the ending has me in a chokehold and I’m going to need a moment to process my emotions.
