Really enjoyed this book. Loved the cat and mouse situation between the two main characters. Gideon was a great, dark/mysterious MMC and I enjoyed learning about his past and his struggles. I also loved Rune’s character, she was a wonderful FMC, who showed her feminine rage in so many different ways. I loved how deeply she cares for her people. The side characters were fantastic as well. The twist was interesting, I predicted a little of it but still enjoyed the way the author wrote it. The ending was so emotional and I will definitely be reading the second book immediately! Loved the writing, there were some great messages and quotes throughout the story.

This read like a poorly written YA novel. The author was trying way too hard at developing an enemies to lovers dynamic that honestly just fell flat. The dialogue was very immature and blunt, and the conflict was overwhelmingly black and white. All of the background of the characters were extremely tragic, like unbelievably so. The magic system was ok, but also unbelievable at times. I do not recommend picking this book up - there is much better fantasy out there!
