I don't even know what to say right now.
I have spent the last 5 months solidly listening to this series, for the first time. I have enjoyed the progression of the story, and the building complexity of the adventures and battles, the slight changing of styles through the series, and the ever growing tension. However, I am now at a loss. Not only will I immensely miss spending nearly every waking hour of my day listening to these stories, but I also feel a little shortchanged....

I found the ending to this book a bit too lazy, a bit too easy; 'And they woke up and it was all a dream' style... it was all very convenient even if, as the reader, you want the good guys to win, it didn't feel justified.
I also found reading all the tying up of loose ends at the end of the story emphasised that this was it, the series was finished and that was very sad, until... Ghastly <3

If I could give this 6 stars I would what an ending if he does a phase 3 I will cry

ABSOLUTELY GODDAMN AMAZING!!!!!!!

There is a lot to talk about here. But no amount of words will honestly do it justice.

Until the End is the final book in Phase 2 of the Skulduggery Pleasant series-a series that I have been reading over the last 16 years of my life. A series that helped spark my passion for books and reading. A series that grew with me as I got older. A series that warmed the heart on days I felt colder.

There is a lot to this series: comfort, excitement, wonderful characters, beautiful magic systems, philosophical diatribes, and crazy awesome magic. And a single review of the most recent (at the time of this writing) novel will not be enough.

But neither will all the reviews I have written about all the other books in the series.

The experience of Skulduggery Pleasant is gestalt. It is greater than the sum of its parts. So please understand that the review below is only for this final novel from a long-time fan of the series.

Until the End (UtE) is deeply flawed. While it wins in the ways of nostalgia, fun action sequences, and interesting ideas, it fails spectacularly in regard to plot and characters. The former failure is due to the fact that the novel crams in so many plot lines that things begin to get a bit haphazard and messy, sometimes even too cooky to fathom. The latter is primarily due to the former. With all these plotlines, we have all these characters. With all these characters, we have all these things that need to be wrapped up (somewhat) and more or less fixed.

Unfortunately, even if the series has been 'reborn' for Phase 3, we have many....MANY loose threads at the end of this story. The pacing is incredibly rushed. And throughout my entire reading of this veritable chonker of a novel, I could not help but wonder if it would have been better to split this novel in two instead of keeping all of the pieces currently together as they are.

Unfortunately, this feels like an answer that I do not think I'll ever get. UtE is what it is. And with that being said, and all the other pains of Phase 2 finally ending, I can look optimistically at SP Phase 3 and the prequel novel set to drop in a few weeks.

Exciting times, these are. Oh what a wonderful world we live in....

IF THERE WERE MORE STARS I COULD GIVE I WOULD, THIS BOOK SERIES IS MY LIFE AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH
The plot twists are all over the place and the build up in the previous books is incredible this book series is SO underrated and  the Skulduggery Pleasant series  really deserves to be up there with Percy Jackson and harry potter. The whole series is full of humour and end of the world situations with sharp wit and clever jokes. I will NEVER stop recommending these books to anyone. I love how the book grows with you, at first the main character is 12 but in book 15 she is 28 which follows the actual time line because Dead Famous Bestseller was released in 2017. I actually cried at the end because currently its the last book in the series hopefully there will be more soon. The book series is not romance based but still has some cute coupley moments.

ALL I CAN SAY IS OH MY FUCKING GOSH I was already sad thinking this was the last book (I know now that it’s not ) but I literally do not know how to express how I felt reading those last chapters. My emotions were all over the place, one minute wanting to cry, then I was massively shocked due to some big revelation and then I was laughing. AND THE LAST LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So so so so happy that ghastly finally came back, I loved how he was always mentioned and never forgotten throughout the books and then to finally have him back!!!!!!!! As always Valkyrie and skullduggery’s bond continued to break me and keep me going at the same time and each time they said until the end my heart broke, couldn’t express how sad I was that he didn’t get to hear Valkyrie say it back when they were wiped from existence. In the last 150 pages I felt like there was still so much left to find out and new things being revealed but the way all of the storylines from everything that happened in previous books came together was amazing and I could only guess half of it just before it was actually revealed. I never thought I would be so upset over thinking china was going to die either. The biggest shock really was omen being Sebastian and going back to the past and finding out that’s why Darquesse was brought back and that he wasn’t useless like he thought cuz he basically saved them all. I liked Darquesse even when she was a villain lol but even more when we saw the growth and how she saw things in a much different way and recreated everything. I loved Valkyrie’s character development throughout the second half of this series, seeing how she went from hating herself for what happened and managing to get through returning back to normal and working again with skulduggery. I feel like the revelation of vies and the twenty was a bit anticlimactic and was sort of expecting more considering it was mentioned throughout the book but I didn’t dwell on it because I was too excited about finally finding out about Sebastian. Also we never really found out what Nuncle was, where he was from and how he could do what he did, he called omen the first, I’m hoping we find out more about that and Abyssinia was brought back from the dead again and it felt like she didn’t really have a purpose this time. I’m hoping we get more about skulduggery’s father as gog Magog because this can’t have been mentioned in this and the grimoire for no reason. I literally love every single character (even some of the ones i initially hated) and the I’m always laughing at what they say and just the way they all get along, I could reread the series over and over again. I’m so excited for whatever book comes next and so glad skulduggery got the Bentley back

Spectacular, thrilling, hilarious, this book has all the hallmarks that make a good Skulduggery book. But this book had a lot riding on its shoulders. Being the conclusion to phase two, it had a lot to resolve and lot to live up to.

While the ending did leave me disappointed in some respects, I can't deny that the story was brilliant and brought the plot of phase two full circle in some very satisfying ways. There were even a few twist revelations that made my jaw drop.

Sadly I think SP is slowly slipping into the Marvel territory when it comes to plot and character. When compared to phase one's ending, The Dying of the Light, the stakes were certainly a helluva lot lower.

Okay, Derek's great at writing last books. I had the goofiest smile finishing this. I don't by any means think it's my new fave Skulduggery book like I did with 9, but I think it might be my fave of this series. It was so exciting! (Though one or two plot points were slightly difficult to digest.) Can't wait to see what he does next!!!
