This was more of a 2.5-3 star read, but because 2-stars means "it was ok" that's what I'm going with.

I cannot fault Dare for her writing style or characters, but I didn't love this book.

Was it cute? Yes.
Was is steamy? Definitely!
Did it have a happy ending? Assuredly.
Did the castle play a large role? Nope.

I liked both Clio and Rafe, but I didn't really get in to their heads or their characters enough. I feel like the Clio's castle (and the castle of the series title) could have played a much larger role in setting up the plot and characterizations for both our main characters - yet instead it was more of an afterthought. We spent too much time dealing with all the other crazy shenanigans and characters in this story that we lost track of the love story of our two mains. Occasionally the out-of-character, and not period accurate dialogue and characters will bother me, but in this book it seemed even more pronounced than in her other books.

Will I read the rest of this series? Probably. But I was disappointed in this one.

this book is underrated bc if Tessa Dare can make friends to lovers feel like THIS while doing so with the constrictions of our female MC being ENGAGED to his BROTHER and still do so in a way that is not a complete mess AND it works out????? HOW. WHAT WITCHCRAFT IS THIS!

also bonus points for some extra fun

When I began reading this, it did take sometime for me to get into it, but as Rafe's feelings were slowly revealing itself more, it was all up form there! So much passion and desire to be read in this novel and my heart was warm through it all.
