Tales from a New Hope…
From a Certain Point of View (Star Wars) was a new experiment in anthologies to take advantage of the 40th anniversary of the first Star Wars movie. I’d say it worked out.
I’ll admit this anthology is not as strong as the others. The stories are shorter, there are several minor figures I expected them to cover that they left out, and the writing didn’t seem as focused.
However, without this, we wouldn’t have had the other two volumes in this series…
I suggest checking it out…and learn the stories of lesser known figures as it relates to the new canon.
I didn’t have a specific new story…other than an interesting yarn about an admin official that explains away why they didn’t just blow away the escape pod (and it wasn’t because of the price of a single laser).
Some of the stories also work in the relatively fresh Rogue One movie and those connections to various new hope characters…

Like any short story collection, hit-or-miss. Honestly I’d give this a four if it didn’t have half the read time being same-y stories that all take place in the cantina. Do not listen to the audiobook for this sequence, as the cantina theme will begin to hurt you emotionally for at least 6 months after reading. Certain stories make the entire novel worth existing though, and I do not regret reading it.

Collections and anthologies are varied, but a few I particularly enjoyed were: "An Incident Report" by Daniel Laverey; 'Verge of Greatness" by Pablo Hidago; and "Desert Son" by Pierce Brown

In honor of the 40th anniversary of the first Star Wars movie, this book presents 40 short stories retelling the events of that film from the perspective of various minor characters -- from Jawas to stormtroopers to the thing in the trash compactor. Some include scenes lifted straight from the movie; others offer plots that have purportedly been playing out in its background this whole time. These vignettes are brief, but the writers are talented, and the project as a whole carries a certain ludicrous joy. (My personal favorite contribution is Mallory Ortberg's "An Incident Report," in which an imperial officer files paperwork regarding the time his coworker Force-choked him during a staff meeting.)
The stories in this collection correlate roughly with the timeline of A New Hope, but they're packed full of clever references to the rest of the Star Wars canon as well. It's a labor of love for fans by fans, and the 40+ authors are all donating their share of the proceeds to the First Book children's literacy nonprofit. Highly recommended for any lover of this franchise.
