4.0

Review of the first two books, as I forgot to write a review for the first and cannot be bothered to try to recall what happened in just the first.

Smut: - 3.5/5 chilli peppers (writing this on a computer so no emojis LOL)

-Audiobook-

I'm really enjoying this series so far. I love all of the MMC's and their different personalities coming together to love Sunday. I've been listening to the audiobook versions of the series and it is fantastic! It is a full cast of narrators. My least favourite is Noah's narrator but even then it's not the worst narration I've heard.

The plot of the books feels a little all over the place and can be hard to keep up with but once you've got a grasp on what's happening it's not too bad. Some plot points seem to be brought up then fall off not long after they have been mentioned.
This is particularly prominent when Sunday suspects she is the child of Lucifer. I felt as though Sunday and Moira learned this information and completely forgot about it. In my opinion this information feels vital to bring up to someone such as the head mistress or Caleb who may be able to guide her through learning this. Another plot point is the breaking of the seals. I felt as though this wasn't explained particularly well. Why was Caleb tasked with stopping this? What does the society know of the seals? Why would they not inform Sunday of this? It feels a little undeveloped otherwise it could have been a great plot point. As the reader I feel left in the dark and not in a good, suspenseful way.

The reason why I gave this book 4 stars is for the characters and their relationships. I feel like each character is somewhat well fleshed out. I only wish we knew a little more about what Sunday's life was like living with her grandfather. We get a brief understanding of her sheltered shifter life but I feel as though their is more we could learn earlier on in the series.

Now let's talk about my favourite aspect of these two books so far... the male main characters. Caleb is my favourite, I hate to love him in a weird way. He is a tortured priest wishing for a life he will never have again. I am a sucker for complicated relationships between a character and their religion. When a character's faith is spoken about with such beauty and devotion, it can be somewhat heartbreaking to watch said character try to learn to go after what they want but still be devoted to their faith. Caleb is no exception, he is a vampire still holding onto his vows he made when he was a human priest. He feels abandoned by God, a deity he devoted himself and who has now forsaken him. He wants Sunday, in the beginning it is lustful want but he loves her and cannot deny the pull he feels towards her. He is really holding himself back from being with her and while I want him to just give in, I almost love the sweet torture of watching him make himself wait. This is man who is over 100 years old and has only lived his life one way, of course it's going to take time for him to come around. I believe the last book in the series is Caleb's so we are definitely being tortured.

I love all the MMC's but here is my official best to worst list as of right now. Caleb, Kingston, Alec then Noah. I just don't feel a super strong connection to Noah as of yet but this may come later in the series.

On a final note there is one particular trope in this series that may put some of you off. I'm going to hide it behind a spoiler warning so look at your own discretion
Sunday gets pregnant. The pregnancy trope and my dislike for it is complicated. If done right I can enjoy it, and so far it's not awful. While I think this trope was thrown in for a bit of excitement in terms of plot, it is still interesting to watch a shifter with 4 overprotective mates navigate pregnancy in such a complicated world.

I apologise if my thoughts are all over the place, I'm writing this from my desk at work and just needed to put down my thoughts about these two books immediately. I am currently 17 chapters into the third book and excited to see where it goes.
