I understand why this is a classic. Definitely check trigger warnings. Lots of violence, underage drinking/smoking, murder, etc. I really liked that it sucked you in. I loved Johnny. Even though this story was written more than 50 years ago, the plot and theme still ring true.

i have grown to make room for this book in my heart. i wish we were not acquainted purely for teaching reasons but maybe being apart from teaching this unit made the heart grow fonder.

also songs from the musical are stuck in my head.

"Stay gold Ponyboy, stay gold." This book was honestly just a great teenage book, that everyone should read. It perfectly captures all the worries of a kid, and then far beyond those worries when so much happens to them in a span of a week. All the characters had something to give to the story, and everything seemed to have so much meaning behind it. Another thing I really liked was the last line of this book, I thought the idea of this book being his composition assignment was really clever, and it makes a lot of things that happened in the book make more sense.

This books is a heart punch and the ending is so full circle and makes me feel speechless. Love the characters, love the storytelling and the pacing. Love it all
