Very sad, not at all an uplifting story. Obviously lots of parallels with Westover's Educating but some key differences as well.

This is an amazing book! Jeannette Walls’s story is unbelievably heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. It reminds me a lot of Educated, in that they both depict a life so insanely different from the norm that it is hard to imagine. It is also beautifully written and well paced. I would recommend this book to anyone!

I LOVED this book! I loved everything about it to the lessons it uncovered, to the chances to relate by changing the perspective, to the slow development of the characters until the very end.
