Close family ties, matriarchal family dynamics, Mexican culture, and flower power make way for a dynamic tale of identity.

This book was, well, enchanting. I'll be honest, I initially picked it up from work because of the strong Encanto vibes I was getting, and I was not at all disappointed. Harlow is a character that many could relate to, especially those of us from large families where every other sibling seems to have a talent. She's realistic, strong-willed, and open in a way that isn't found in a lot of fictional characters. She's has doubts and concerns and flaws, and the author did an incredible job of navigating those throughout the story. Ben was another character I greatly enjoyed. The connection between the two was immediate and strong, and I loved watching it grow as we read and learned more about the two of them.
In terms of the writing, there were a couple of timeline issues that I couldn't quit wrap my head around. I won't go into detail and spoil anything, but it just wasn't entirely clear how long this story took place over.
Overall, though, I think fans of magic and love will be swept up in the Enchanted Hacienda when it hits stores this May.

3.5, rounded up. It was good, not AWESOME. It dragged in places. The premise is terrific, just slow at times.
