Another mediocre read for me here. A lot of ups and downs between boring and exciting that it's hard to say how much I enjoyed it. Which is kind of sad because I really like Rikar and his awesome ice powers. Well. I like him when he's not being an emotional pansy. These guys becoming such weak willed, tear filled warriors is so disappointing. While my fear of reading the phrase "slow your roll" over and over and over again was validated, it was definitely better than the first book. Now if only we can get her to stop saying "shitkickers". They're called boots. You know it, I know it. Please just say boots. Also, what the hell is up with abbreviating EVERYTHING possible? That was getting seriously annoying and needs to stop.
As we know, Angela was captured by Lothair at the end of the first book. While with him she is forced into many horrible things, none of which are straight up said but enough is implied to figure out just how she suffered. Even so, she works hard to keep her wits about her, always seeking a way to escape. And when it presents itself, she takes it. Her escape is not easy, but it is successful. At least until the sun goes down.
When Riker feels Angela's energy signature again, he knows the race will be on to get to her before Lothair does. While he didn't get to her first, he was able to rescue her. But she's in a terrible state. The only way to save her is to share the Meridian energy he has with her...but that will also join them forever. Risking her fury over it is a chance he is willing to take to save her life. Which works of course.
After Angela wakes up, not a whole lot happens there. Angela has a lot of emotions to try and get a handle on while also trying to figure out her feelings for Rikar. She prides herself on being able to take care of herself and not need anyone else, but her desire for Rikar to take care of and comfort her is stronger than she can fight. Thow in all the information about this new world and it's a lot to deal with for anyone. As a side note, I was a little surprised that when she saw Myst again she didn't say anything about being glad she was still okay. I mean, the last she saw her she was also tide up and being chased by dragons. Wouldn't you think she'd be a least a little relieved to see that she had also made it out? One good thing that comes of being there is finding out what happened to Mac, and now she can finally stop worrying about what happened to her partner. I was looking forward to more Mac, and it fast became easy to predict what was going on with him. Though the truth of him was still kind of neat, the relationship formed between him and Rikar because of it was a little weird for me.
I loved reading about Forge. He tried really hard to hide his true self, but it didn't work. Myst saw right thru him and was determined to get him on their side. It's Bastian though that gives him something that he has desperately wanted for a very long time. And I was so happy for it.
While Rikar goes crazy making love to Angela for numerous reasons (not least of which to help her heal, and also to change her energy signature {which was another convenient plot device}) Lothair's anger continues to seethe and his desire to catch her again to make her pay only increases. He's determined to kill her and even makes a deal with Ivar to do so. Because high energy females are so rare it would be a waste. Apparently so rare, but it seems to be easy enough for them to find more...
The Nightfuries have come up with a plan to take Lothair out (of course including Angela because females in books always think they can totally hold their own in battle with dragons) and it's actually a pretty good one. Too bad it doesn't go as planned. In the end though, the victory still goes to the Nightfuries and Angela gets some closure that she desperately needed.
Ivar has learned of the pattern that Lothair discovered and has now set his sets on Tania. Not only does he want her, but what better way to strike at your enemy commander than to take his mate's best friend?

This story just was all over the place with new characters, characters from the first story and all kinds of turmoil and romance! The build up has me very excited to read the next.

Ok, Rikar . . . Come thru! . . . Rikar out here trying to be superman: kicking ass, taking names and saving lives! Specifically Angela's life. Get it done and add to the clan!
It's so fun reading/listening to these a 2nd time.

Rikar is a far more compelling and charasmatic character than the first book on Bastion I am looking forward to Mac and Wicks stories in the series.
3.75 stars.
This sequel is a definite upgrade from book 1. I wasn’t sure I was going continue this series and I am glad that I did. Aspects of the series still remind me of Black Dagger Brotherhood & Midnight Breeds, but this second book established it as its own series. The connection between Angela and Rikar was a must stronger match and much better chemistry than Myst and Bastien from Book 1. First, I think I like the Angela better than Myst and I like Rikar better than Bastien.
One of the things I enjoy about this series is that the women are strong and independent. They are quite resourceful.
In Book 1, Angela was kidnapped and raped by Lothaire, but in the beginning of this book she escapes a Razorback stronghold. She is tough. She makes it her mission to help the Nightfury find and try to rescue the other kidnapped females, whom the razorbacks where using for experimental breeding programs (*ahem Midnight Breeds)
My major complaint is that the dialogue tended to get overly cheesy and repetitive. We get it, as a bonded male, you would rather die than hurt YOUR FEMALE. You live for YOUR FEMALE. No one better look or touch YOUR FEMALE etc.
I also like what the author is doing with Forge. He is definitely a complex dragon with an agenda of his own. He seems like he is one of the good guys, but he also seems like he would be willing to do anything to get what he wants. Then we have the newest dragon, a rare water Dragon, Mac. He is Angela’s big brother, but it seems like he has been keeping secrets from everyone.
While the writing and plot is a tad subpar to BDB and Midnight Breeds, it is still of the same vein. So if you enjoy those series, you will definitely enjoy this one too. I look forward to reading book 3, Fury of Seduction, which is Mac’s story.

What a surprise!!! Loved it from start to finish. Never would've guessed after the first book.
Fury of Ice is the second book in the dragonfury series by Coreeen Callahan. I was able to obtain this through Audible, and since I have a love for audiobooks, I knew I had to get this through an audiobook. I do love a steamy shifter romance, but when you put dragons in the mix, the heat level on rises...mmm deliciousness in one book, who can resist??? Fury of Ice is Rikar's story, we continue on from the last book, where Angela ends up being kidnapped by dragons with a evil agenda. Angela is a detective, and is tough as nails, but being forced to feed the Razorback, Lothaire.. Angela's strength is almost depleted, when a chance to escape opens up and she barely escapes with the help of Rikar coming to her rescue. Rikar and Angela are mates, and Angela is suffered from a form of PTSD, and Rikar is her anchor. With danger surrounding them, will Angela and Rikar be able to form the mating bond without losing one another to the enemy?
Fury of Ice is a fantastic shifter romance, and I do love dragons. They are so passionate and fierce, and I totally take it in for all its worth. After reading the first one, I have been waiting to read Rikar and Angela's story. Even though I am not huge on the battle ready heroines, I really admired Angela, she was a very endearing characters, that instantly pulled at my heartstrings. From the beginning of the story you see how much that she has suffered at the hands of Lothaire, and I admire her courage and stubbornness to survive, she never gives up. Rikar is not going to give up on Angela, no matter what. Rikar is quite a swoon worthy hero, I would trade places with Angela any time. Rikar is a warrior, second in command, and definitely has the Alpha Male routine going on, but there are times where you love the way he is with Angela. He gives her room to breathe and make decisions for herself and tries not to push her too hard. I enjoyed seeing these two together, and what chemistry!! I thought my room would turn into flames, with that these two characters were dishing out. We do see a sub plot, with Angela's partner who ends up being a fledgling water dragon (way cool right?), and the circumstances of his future mate which was a good start for the next book which is their story.
A suspenseful plot, that is packed with action, sexy dragon shifters, tender romance and a story to bring a tear or two to your eyes, and barks of laughter at other times. A story full of everything that makes a paranormal romance, Brilliantly well done...worth every penny!! Fully recommended.

Another fun read.
My one issue - I wish the Dragons' back story was fleshed out more, I feel like I'm not getting the full picture.

Angela was kidnapped by the Razorbacks at the end of [b:Fury of Fire|13031380|Fury of Fire (Dragonfury, #1)|Coreene Callahan|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1323474881s/13031380.jpg|18194716].
Rikar met up with Angela as a part of his process of removing evidence of dragons from the investigation into Myst's disappearance.
Angela is the holy grail for an Ice Dragon, high-energy and leaning towards the cold side of the Meridian. Unfortunately for Rikar, no matter how good a tracker he's unable to follow her energy past a cloak.
Angela is a Seattle homicide detective and she certainly doesn't take imprisonment lying down. She bashes Lothair in the head and escapes through the ventilation system.
At sunset Lothair and Rikar both go after her and Rikar wins taking her back to Black Diamond.
I liked the way Angela didn't try to leave the lair and instead she works past her trauma over the kidnapping and gives Rikar a chance.
I really liked the twist of Mac's heritage. It makes sense, tells us more about dragons and well, it was kind of obvious in hindsight. Well done Callahan!
Forge was a welcome addition to the Nightfury clan and I hope to see more of him, poor tragic soul.
I really like the theory that high-energy females are born to the same families or become friends, because it justifies why these rare females are so often close together, which is something that is often difficult to ignore in a PNR series.
I wish I knew what happened to Tania, I really hope that Angela and the Nightfuries twig to the gravitating theory on high energy females because it would be tiring to have to rescue the women at the start of every book.
If you are still confused by what I'm trying to say in this review, well I tried but here it is: this book proves that the first book wasn't a fluke, provides a satisfying conclusion to Rikar and Angela's story, opens up yet more avenues for sequels and so I advise you to get both Fury of Fire and this book soon.
