HARD AS IT GETS was absolutely amazing and it cemented its place as one of my all-time favorite books. Mature, intelligent heroine? Check! Gruff, protective, but still lovable hero? Check! Band of badass brothers? Check! Tattoos, tattoos, & more tattoos? Triple Check!

I loved Becca and Nick and they were the perfect couple. They fall in love over a few short days, but Laura Kaye knows how to capture that intangible essence of love. That feeling of safety, acceptance, and commitment that you feel with another person. The way they become your touchstone, your rock, and your support. The way a certain person just makes you feel comfortable by simply being next to you. Nick and Becca are better people because of their love and I loved the gentle way they cared for each other.

I especially admired the way Becca rolled with everything that happened; she was smart, courageous, and determined. Becca was willing to do whatever it took to find and save her brother and she put that same determination into supporting Nick and his teammates. And Nick was absolutely swoony; he was gruff and growly at first and wanted nothing to do with Becca because of the history between Nick and her father. But once his protective instincts kicked in and he realized the danger Becca was in, he dedicated himself to helping her. Nick struggled with being vulnerable but I loved watching him open up to Becca and realize she was a safe space for him.

As if Nick and Becca weren't amazing enough, the rest of Nick's Special Forces team and his brother were fantastic characters. Jeremy was definitely my favorite with his easygoing demeanor and his innuendo-filled t-shirts. He might be the younger brother, but his support and protective feelings toward Nick were beautiful to see. Even though things between Nick and his team ended badly and they hadn't seen each other in almost a year, they were still brothers in arms. Easy, Beckett, Marz, and Shane were rough, tough, and somewhat dented soldiers and I can’t wait to see them fall in love.

Content Warning: past death of a parent; past death of a sibling from an overdose; references to human trafficking, gang violence, torture

Favorite Quotes:

Much as he’d told himself all the reasons to resist his attraction to her, facts were facts. He needed to be there for her—to protect, comfort, support. And he needed the redeeming light of her sunshine on his body, his heart, his soul. God, he just wanted her. Right or wrong.

Audiobook-Take a group of special force ops with dubious backgrounds, a girl with a kidnapped brother and add some serious drip trading and you have the making of a action based romance. She is the daughter of their commander who died and left home framed for a crime they say they didn't commit. Her brother, was kidnapped and the the message he left for her was to contact this guy who turned out to be from her fathers group of angry warriors. Well he decides to help her for several reasons, they bond, things get hot/cold confusing with the messages being passed between them. Meanwhile the group is still pissy, they fight, then make up, back and forth. You get the idea, not a well put together group. There are bullets, body parts, messy houses, pizza, and macho juice moments mixed with some mushy kiss time. It gets gong fast, danger is everywhere and then the book ENDS ! Cliffhanger, yep.
What worked:
1) The guys were pretty cool, loved the individual personalities
2) Tech, tech, tech, got my nerdy loving tech heart ticking
3) The guys were all hot in different ways
4) Great sex
5) Intense action
5) Conspiracies ?
6) Tattoo palor
What didn't work:
1) Love already ?
2) Sex while there is a finger in the other room- gag
3) Love too soon
4) Love too easy

I'm not sure if I'll continue the series. I liked it but I don't feel compelled to find out the who and what right now.

Note on the narrator: Great voice but she was so zen, I didn't really feel the scary intense parts. I was so mellow, man it was a trip. Sorry her voice was a thing of beauty I want her to read a mediation book for me.

High 4 star read, this one. Action, good sexual tension, hot alpha males with tats, strong but not annoying heroine. Longer review to come on Booklikes.

It was a fine story, it didn't charmed me completely and there were times I was easily distracted, but the mystery of the plot kept me in the book and makes me want to keep reading the next ones to find the conclusion of this story.

This book was my first military alpha male book! The main characters had such an angsty relationship that kept me on my toes! The story had an interesting crime and suspense aspect that was entertaining and allowed great plot development. The only reason why I gave it a 4 star is because the characters fell in love in such a short period of time. I wish they would have had more time to explore each other before admitting they “love” one another.

Also, this book ends on a cliffhanger!

This book was real amazing and I loved reading this book. I loved how Becca was so strong after everything that happened to her. I loved how Nick did not blame Becca for what her father did to them in the army at first he blamed her but later he got over it and fell in love with her, she is helping them clear there names and all the guys are now like family to her because they helped her find her brother. Knowing that all there lives is in danger they still helped Becca and they all made sure that she was safe at all times. Laura always rights amazing books and this book was real amazing and enjoyable I would gladly recommend it to my friends

I will admit that I took one look at this sexy cover and decided I wanted to read this book. I hadn't even read the blurb yet when I knew that I was interested, but after reading it I knew this story was going to be good. I definitely was not disappointed with Hard As It Gets, and I really enjoyed reading this one. I thought that this was a great way to start this series, and I already cannot wait to read the next one.

Becca's brother goes missing and the only clue she has is from her brother telling her to find Nick Rixey. Becca goes to Hard Ink and finds Rixey only for him to turn her away. After a few days of keeping an eye on her though, Nick quickly figures out that something isn't right and could very well have something to do with the disaster that forced him to leave the Army. Rixey begins to help Becca look for her brother Charlie and hopes that along the way he can get to the bottom of everything that happened. He enlists the help of what is left of his team, and they begin to work together. As Becca and Rixey search for Charlie, things between them begin to heat up. But there is more than just attraction growing between them, and the more that Rixey gets to know Becca the deeper their feelings become. Can they find Charlie and get the answers that Nick and his team have been searching for? Can Becca and Rixey make it out of this dangerous situation they have found themselves in and be together?

I loved Nick Rixey. He was sexy and a total tattooed alpha, but he was also really sweet and caring. I loved how he really wanted to take care of Becca and be protective of her, but he also didn't baby her. He really let her be herself and made sure that he didn't shut her out of what was going on. He was also a really great friend. Even though he had made some bad decisions and there was a lot of tension between the members of his team, he really cared about them and the trust and camaraderie was easy to see. I also really liked Becca. I liked that she was tough and strong, definitely not your typical shrinking violet type of heroine. She wasn't afraid to risk everything for those she cared about, and it was clear to see how much she really loved her family. Even though she was very insightful about what Nick was feeling and going through, she made it a point to never bring up anything in front of others so that he wouldn't be upset or embarrassed. I thought that spoke volumes about her character and how much she really thought of Nick. Their connection was so real and believable. I was surprised just how strong their connection was in such a short period of time, but I never once questioned it. They were just naturally a perfect fit for each other in every way. They were a great balance to each other, and they had amazing chemistry! These two really generated a ton of steam, and their sex was very hot!

Overall, I thought that this one was a great read! I loved that as the first book in this series we got to meet all the players and set everything up, but that we also got a really great romance out of it as well. I thought that Laura Kaye did a great job of answering some of our questions, but also of making us ask more. She didn't leave this on a huge cliffhanger, but was able to leave us with unanswered questions and wanting more. I really enjoyed the guys from the team and I thought that their interactions with Becca and Rixey were definitely some of the high points of this book. I cannot wait to get more of them as this series progresses. I also really liked Jeremy, Jess and am curious to get to know more about Charlie. I did feel as though the first few chapters and a few other parts of the story moved a little slowly for my liking, and that is what kept me from rating this one higher. I did however keep reading despite that, and I am so glad that I did. If you are looking for a book with suspense and romance featuring some hot tattooed guys, this is definitely one you won't want to miss. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the Hard Ink Series which is Hard As You Can. This one will be Shane's story, and I cannot wait to get to know him better!
