An excellent collection of stories! They are all quite brief and some of them quite fantastic, but the most common theme is the danger of pride and the need for humility. Since the author met most of these people firsthand (and he lets you know when his sources come from elsewhere), this collection is more matter-of-fact than others, and sometimes there is no clear moral--just a crazy story. In many cases he tells the story, not of a saint, but of someone who goes far afield, and these can be quite helpful in evaluating one's own self.

The book also gives a little insight into the general opinion of Saint Jerome and those involved in the ongoing controversy Origin (which involved Rufinus and Evagrius, the latter of whom was very well known to Palladius). All in all, very inspiring and entertaining.
