I fell in love with this book almost immediately. I finished it at 4am with my kindle literally on 1% (my Paperwhite is the real MVP here). I could not put it down. It’s a true KU GEM.

I liked Briar Prescott’s prose a lot. She really puts the com in rom-com. And the characters are so well written. They’re complex and their arcs drive the story—the mark of a truly great romance, in my opinion.

Gray and Kai have the most amazing friendship, and it’s so beautifully developed. They’ve been best friends since childhood, and their bond comes across in every action, every word spoken between them. Prescott beautifully illustrates the little intimacies of friendship. Their friendship is such a strong foundation for their relationship, and I love how they never lose their banter. Their relationship doesn’t change so much as it develops new layers. It’s beautiful (how many times can I use that word to describe this book??). The Happy List reminded me of why I love the friends to lovers trope.

This was a slowww burn. The kind that has you going feral because they held hands. I did not know I liked this trope until now!!

Another thing I loved about this book is how Gray doesn’t feel the need to label his sexuality. I will say that I read him as demi/ace spec (the textual evidence is strong!). But in the end, all that matters is that he wasn’t attracted to anyone before, and all of a sudden he’s attracted to Kai. And it just works.

I could go on about all the things I loved about this book, but I’m stretching the character limit. Just. Please read it. 🩷
