I want to like Calvin and Hobbes. I like the art. There is always some clever writing. Susie is always well written. But Calvin is such a brat. And not a smart one at that. I always feel so much sympathy for his parents. I'm just clearly not the target audience. Hobbes on the other hand. Remove Calvin from this and have it only be Hobbes, that would be an improvement. Perhaps one of the books will be more my taste. This is good but not for me. Just like if it were a horror book.

Every time I re-read one of these it's just as brilliant as the first time I read them.

For the 2015 Reading Challenge, I chose this one for my "book published the year you were born". I know it's a bit of a cheap shot since it's much quicker to read than a novel, but I'm so glad I did. Not only am I old enough to know all the big words and get all the jokes, but there's also some subtlety to the relationships I had missed reading Calvin and Hobbes as a kid.

I feel compelled to write something, but honestly, what can you really say other than Watterson is a brilliant & hilarious writer packaged with the abilities of a wonderful illustrator. I love these books.
