I was recommended this book by my sister who loved it. But I can't say the same. I wasn't a fan of how Bennett was treated - and then she just... forgave the dudes who basically abused her. It was well written - but not quite my cup of tea.

Not sure why I finished this. I really liked the beginning with the pirate theme but it lost the sense of adventure and became a romance

I really want to give it 5 stars but it is 80% smut so I feel like I can’t: however, I could not put this book down. Talk about an enemy-to-lovers book. Far better than many recommended on booktok. TW- some horrible things happen; rape, sodomy, violence, slavery, suicide- horribly dark but I didn’t feel it was glorified. If anything, it made it more real because it’s a book about pirates. Not a big fan of MM scenes but it never felt feminine. This is the first Pam Godwin book I’ve read and I’m hooked.

TW for SA means that it will be present in the book; it doesn't mean you can write a romance where one of the people involved rapes the other and then is forgiven (time and time again) and pretend like it's okay because "omg this is a dark romance! Dark things happen".

Newsflash: TWs are there to help the reader decide if the themes in the book are something they will be able to handle. They are NOT however, an excuse for authors to write about horrible things in a very harmful way without a care and then day "well I'm sorry but i warned you :)"

No. Nope.

That's disgusting.

In this book, the man that's supposed to be a love interest rapes the protagonist and then... remains the love interest?

Do not dare blame this on the setting or time; the protagonist herself recognizes it is sexual assault but then remembers "he's hot, I'll let it slide LOL"

Biggest disappointment so far I'm... sad

It started great, I thought it will be 5 stars read. But i don’t like love triangles. so only 3 stars read.
