Overall it’s a good book but it’s getting very frustrating with “the to be continued” ending half way through a story. I would like to be able to read the story in one while book instead of it being dragged out into 12 books. Feels unnecessary and just a way to make people spend more money than needed. So glad I’m hurrying and not buying these books. This book did have a big twist in it and it did make me cry a bit but it didn’t need to be a different book, it could have been part of the previous books
In Trials of Death Darren has to prove himself in five trials. Every book in this series is so different from the rest but I think this was my favorite so far, because it surprised me the most.
I was kind of bored during the first half of the book. I have read several books with trials a lot like these, so I thought that this was going to be one of the more predictable books in the series (Darren almost dies a few times but in the end he will probably succeeds in the trials, then i can move on to the next book). During the second half i started to realize that my expectations were very wrong. It was full of surprises and it ended in a huge cliffhanger.
Something else i like about these books is the world building. In most series almost al the world building is done in the first few books. During the rest of the series there is barely any focus on it. This is not the case here, there was a lot in this book about the culture of vampires and vampire mountain.

Oooooh this was a pretty rough one. The trials just felt so unnecessary, to be honest. I don't understand why they had to happen. I don't particularly understand how any of them were a particularly good test of anything. They all felt like false peril, and then magically he manages to overcome them... For the most part.
The book only really got interesting with the fourth trial, and the ending sets up the next book quite well, so I am intrigued to see where it goes next.

This is definitely my favorite one in the series so far. The trials definitely had Goblet of Fire feel and it was neat to see how much all the characters have evolved from the first book. I also liked how this book had all the necessary intense and suspenseful scenes yet it didn't have the scariness and sadness of the previous books. Listening to this series as audiobooks has been really enjoyable so far and I highly recommend this series to everyone.
