If you thought Kick-Ass book 1 was the apogee of ultra violence and bloodshed, well, think again!
It seems that Mark Millar was aiming for utter epicness here with all the murders, rapes, torture and suffering galore. My opinion is that the story had a lot of the potential, but it was ruined by very far-fetched plot developments... we're not talking 11-year-old-mass-murderer-far-fetched, but worse.

The book had its very heart-wrenching and sad moments. The plot was fast-paced and overall captivating, no doubt. However, the fact that 100 kids going out murdering innocent people just because guru Red Mist asks them to just does not fly with me. I know that Kick-Ass is far from being the most realistic comic book out there, but give me a break.
Furthermore, a little backstory on Red Mist and his gang would have made the story more credible and solid, and would have perhaps justified why these villains were so overly violent in their approach to revenge.

The book ended on a pretty interesting cliffhanger. I will stay tuned.

Not quite as good as the first book, but still pretty enjoyable. Hit-Girl is sidelined for most of this, which takes some of the fun out of it, but she still has a few good moments in there. Instead Kick-Ass ends up teaming up with some other people to form Justice Forever. Which is a cool concept, but you learn pretty much nothing about the other team members besides their names, so that was kind of a negative for me. The lack of character development is probably my biggest complaint with this book. I'd love to see a volume in the future just dedicated to giving something like an issue a piece to some of the other super-heroes in the group. Also some of the violence in this volume seemed to border on a bit too pointless and/or overdone. Oh look, Red Mist Motherfucker is killing more civilians. *yawn*

This pales significantly when compared to the first volume. By making everything a tad bit more bat-shit crazy, it feels less compelling and interesting. The first volume tread a fine line of trying to be realistic, yet roping in some of the odd quirks of superhero storytelling. This volume just wants to amp up the violence & language as much as possible without any attempt to stay grounded.

On top of those issues, the ending of this volume leaves you on a huge cliffhanger that I feel was partially put in place just to get you to care about wanting a next volume. It felt cheap to me.

That being said, I didn't hate this book... I was more so just disappointed by it. It seems that Millar took the easy route when writing this and just went big, dumb, and violent; he forgot about what actually made the first volume good.

I love Mark Millar’s work form “Wanted” to “Kingsmen” to “Kick-Ass”. This is the continuation from the 1st volume & if you’ve seen the movies to these specific titles then you’ve only got the Disney version of Millar’s world. For they are not for the faint of heart & have a relative real world endings with consequences opposed to how some stories have that kind of lame “happily ever after” ending. On top of Millar’s story is John Romita Jr’s art! Which is amazing as usual.
