It’s very digestible and reads easy while highlighting key ideas of the text.

Every public library and school library should have a copy of this contemporary retelling of the Mayan origin story -- perhaps 2 copies: one in the original Spanish and this English translation by the Guatemalan-born David Unger. Written by a Mayan /Guatemalan anthropologist, and beautifully illustrated by a Nicaraguan artist, it's a respectful and mostly enjoyable read (as with other scriptures, I found it dull in the begat section, a short bit at the end).

To say that I find the names challenging is an understatement! I'd like to listen to an audio version.

I mainly read the Tedlock translation and found that really difficult at times. I ended up looking at the Christenson translation a lot as I find that much smoother to read. But so glad that multiple translations are now available, and that I finally got a chance to read this, I've heard so much about it over the years.

Often referred to as the Mayan Bible, its so much more than that - it was their creation story, their past, their future, their total knowledge of how to do everything, even when to plant their food! A written down version of their oral history.
Absolutely stunning, and Tedlocks intro at the beginning really sets the scene and allows you to further understand his translations later.
An Amazing Read.
