if only YA authors realized you don’t need to write in the most heavy-handed nature to make things clear…show-not-tell guys. the author sometimes treats readers like if she doesn’t spell things out during some in-your face expository spiel or backstory monologue you will not understand the most obvious character development. despite these frustrations, this was yet again an engaging read with an interesting new villain and i liked sorinda as the new focus character. little roslyn once again steals the show for being adorably determined to learn how to kill people.

however, despite my frustrations, for having a plus size male love interest who truly betters himself for the woman he loves without thinking he’s then entitled to her and is described as NOT conventionally attractive (in fact he’s described as having an ugly face multiple times in the series 😭), i must give some deserved credit! normal-looking people deserve love too! also in the midst of all the typical YA romance cringe, “i was processing how your skin felt against mine” was very a attractive line hehe 🤭 kearan has some good flirty lines
